Maple Glazed Pecans are a delicious snack, quick and easy recipe, and great DIY gift to present to your holiday host, hostess, co-workers, friends, and family!
One of my favorite treats to munch on during the holidays are – or were – honey glazed pecans. Sweet, crunchy and so satisfying. But, after recently announcing to my family and friends that I was going vegan (a nice little surprise JUST before Thanksgiving) I have since abandoned all animal products and by-products like honey.
In the last few months I’ve made many substitutions – and quite easily – so I thought “why not make a vegan-friendly and cruelty-free version of my beloved snack?!”
So that I did. I am excited to share that I created a Maple Glazed Pecan recipe that is…
Quick and Easy
Tested and approved
…and most importantly, flavorful!
The wonderful thing about making a batch of homemade Maple Glazed Pecans is that you know EXACTLY what ingredients were used, makes your kitchen smell INCREDIBLE, and tastes 100% better than store bought. Warm fresh maple glazed pecans? YES PLEASE!!!
I am a BIG fan of pecans and I scooped up 2 cups unsalted raw organic pecans from the bulk food section of my local grocery story. That way, you can get as much or as little as you like – for less!
Then, I tossed the pecans with only 3 additional ingredients that I already had in my pantry: maple syrup, maple sugar, and cinnamon.
Maple sugar is simply sugar produced by evaporating the sap of the maple tree, only 11 calories per tablespoon, and even contains naturally occurring minerals like potassium and calcium! It’s a great substitute for cane sugar or other sugar. Learn more about the organic brand I used in this recipe here.
Naturally, I first have to perform an obligatory taste test to “inspect” the ingredients in raw form. Then I bake the “approved” batch in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the sugar has caramelized. I like to take out and toss the coated pecans about 8 minutes in (the halfway point) before baking the pecans for the remaining few minutes. Be extra watchful the last few minutes to avoid burning that beautiful batch of sweet goodness!
Now the hard part. You need to wait 10 minutes to let it cool. I know it’s hard, but I have faith in you. You don’t want to burn your fingers and/or tongue (although at around 5 minutes of cooling the pecan slightly sizzles in your mouth if you’re a rebel – but no seriously wait another 5 minutes) and let the pecan mixture solidify. Fancy words, but wise words.
Ok yes, NOW you can break apart the pieces that were stuck together and sneak a snack in before packaging the rest up for gifts!
You know what also tastes amazing with Maple Glazed Pecans? Cranberries and Chocolate. Yes, seriously. I’m drooling right now looking at delicious photo, wishing and thinking “why didn’t I make a double batch?!”
Anywhoo – I love to toss in dried cranberries (sweetened by apple juice), vegan chocolate chips (dairy free, no sugar added), and sprinkle a bit more of cinnamon or Gingerbread spice (recipe soon to come).
During my holiday shopping, I found these fantastic mason jars with colorful lids at my local craft store. They make for great gift containers and to store my maple pecan chocolate cranberry mix!
Aren’t they adorable? I love using mason jars for gifts and add that special personal touch like chalk writable labels and “homemade with love just for you” spoon hanging tags.
This is a homemade and heartfelt gift that’s perfect to give to any host, hostess, friends, family, co-workers, and your boss! You’re sure to earn a few brownie (or maple covered pecan) points with this quick, easy, and INEXPENSIVE gift!
I also snatched up matching gift bags and wrote a personalized message – which helps greatly if you are passing out presents all at once to a group. Gift the mix alone or pair with homemade gingerbread spice (recipe coming soon) and a fun coffee mug (watch video) before stuffing with tissue paper.
Tah dah! I hope you enjoy creating fun and flavorful gifts for your family and friends this Christmas and holiday season.
